Regular TriReview runner and writer Gary Dixon (@garydixon61) has just completed the tough Anglesey Coastal Marathon off the north-west coast of Wales. He sent us these amazing pictures of this ‘marathon’ which he says measured more than 28miles on his GPS watch.
The Anglesey Coastal Marathon is the fifth in a series of coastal races. To prevent erosion of the coastal paths the number of applications to the Anglesey Coastal Marathon is restricted to only 500 runners so it regularly sells out. Here’s the official race website.
Gary described it as ‘an amazing setting’. This was his 59th marathon including the infamous Comrades Marathon which he did last year. His goal is to do 100 marathons and he’s planning to do another 15 in 2014. Despite today’s incredible achievement he’s gearing up for another half marathon tomorrow (Sunday).
Gary said the terrain meant that he was only able to run around 9 miles of the race, the rest was hiking in mud and water. He completed the course in 6hrs 51 mins but says the last 2 miles took him 52 mins! Full write up to come but an early tip from the veteran marathoner is ‘make sure you wear some decent trail shoes!’
