The 7x off-road triathlon champion Conrad Stoltz (aka ‘The Caveman’) has signed up to take on XTERRA England.
Stoltz, who is known for his fearless mountain bike skills (see video below) and huge personality, will start the off-road triathlon championships as the race favourite, despite the presence of a strong field of other world champions.
The high-profile off-road triathlon event takes which takes place on the 23rd August 2014 at the Vachery Estate in Cranleigh, Surrey.
The race is the English championships and is a qualifier for the XTERRA World Championships being held in October 2014 in Maui, Hawaii.
The Caveman commented on his entry: “I’ve been busy planning my 2014 racing season and have always had one eye on XTERRA England as it fits so nicely in my schedule with the ITU Cross-Triathlon Worlds in Germany the week before. Then I watched last year’s TV show on Youtube and I was immediately sold! What an awesome, challenging, fun course.”
Mark Davis, director of XTERRA England said: “We are delighted to welcome such a legend of the sport to XTERRA England, Conrad is a fierce racer and will add another fascinating aspect to the overall competition. They don’t give out world titles, never mind 7 of them, so he is clearly one of the favourites, but I still expect him to find that course and the competition very challenging.”
Taking place on the 23rd August 2014, up to 1000 age group off-road triathletes will join some of the world’s elite to tackle the 1.5km swim in the waters of the private Vachery Pond, before hitting the trails and singletrack of the Vachery Estate for a 2-lap mountain bike stage. Triathletes will then complete a testing 10km off-road run, which includes more than a few surprises for those taking part, with ditches, jumps and water obstacles forming part of the course.
The organisers of XTERRA England announced in mid-January that race places are selling fast, with the championship race already over half-way to capacity.
