The Brownlee Tri, a new event started in 2013 by the world famous triathlon brothers, is on the shortlist for the coveted BT Sport Industry Awards.
It joins the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London in the top five events included in the Participation Event of the Year category.
The Brownlee Tri took place for the first time in 2013 and had over 1,000 competitors discovering triathlon at the Fountains Abbey World Heritage Site in front of 5,000 spectators.
The PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London took place in September 2013 at the Olympic Triathlon venue of Hyde Park and offered amateur athletes the opportunity to compete at the same venue as their Olympic triathlon heroes. More than 2,500 members of the public had the chance to compete in Hyde Park and complete their personal triathlon challenge with 96% of participants recommending the event to others.
British Triathlon has a successful track record at the Sports Industry Awards having won Sport Governing Body of the Year in 2010 and 2012 and hopes 2014 will be another year for celebration for triathlon. The Award winners will be announced in London on 8 May.
