One Step Beyond organise the excellent Outlaw race

Fancy a £22 race?

Well, at last, a race organiser is putting its money where its mouth is and making a low, cost race series that should go some way to encouraging more participants.

Organisers of the Outlaw Triathlon, One Step Beyond, have teamed up with Triathlon England to launch new low-cost GO TRI events at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. The first event is set for 20 May.

Using the same regatta lake, closed circuit bike course and country park that famously hosts the award-winning Outlaw events, the OSB GO TRI events will have high quality organisation, without the frills.

There are two race distances available, ensuring that there is something for novices as well as more experienced athletes. There are overall midweek league prizes for competitors in the Super Sprint distance, and a discount on entering all four races.

All of the usual OSB features like a free parking, secure transition and excellent safety provision are included, but things like chip timing, event t-shirts and medals have been removed to save cost.

GO TRI – Splash and Dash

Price: £12.00

Distances: 200m swim / 5km bike / 1.5km run

Time: 18:30

GO TRI – Super Sprint, incorporating the OSB Midweek League

Price: £22.00 (£80.00 for all four)

Distance 400m swim / 10km bike / 3km run

Time: 18:45

Event dates

  1. Actually seems quite expensive in reality. Nwsc has free parking anyway, as it will not be on public roads there’s no road closures to consider, with no chip timing, medal or T-shirt I would expect this to be much cheaper. More cost effective would be to go to colwick park for the open water swim sessions on the same night costing about a quarter of the price and then popping for a run or bike ride

    1. Yes, hadn’t thought about that. Still the lowest cost ‘organised race’ you’ll find though. To be encouraged!
