JAVIER GOMEZ MAKES HISTORY WITH 5TH WORLD TITLE

javier gomez 5 titles

Javier Gomez is now the most successful ITU triathlete in history. A (close) second place in Chicago means he’s taken his 5th world title beating Simon Lessing’s (GBR) previous record of 4.

Gomez has dominated this year with the absence of the Brownlee Brothers through injury for almost the entire season. Jonny did get fit for the grand final but ended up 12th and said he was happy with the result after his nasty stress fracture.

Javier (who is one of the nicest sportsmen in the world) is arguably the most successful triathlete full stop. Take a look at his results now:

  • 5 X TRIATHLON WORLD CHAMPION
  • 3 X EUROPEAN CHAMPION
  • OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALIST LONDON 2012
  • IM70.3 WORLD CHAMPION
  • X-TERRA WORLD CHAMPION

He said in his post race interview that it’s all about RIO 2016 now and if he takes gold there, it may well put any debate to bed.

Gwen Jorgensen also took her second world title in a row with a superb performance in Chicago. Although it was a GBR 1,2 with Non Stanford and Vicky Holland, Rio 2016 is looking pretty good for Gwen.

Highlights of the men’s race here (women’s not up yet):
